Pros:This university is in an excellent location. The city is beautiful, and the food is fairly good.
Cons:Where do I begin? My one-year master's degree was hands down one of the worst experiences of my life. The worst part about this university is, by far, the staff and faculty. The staff are incredibly rude. Be prepared to be yelled at and humiliated publicly for just about anything. Also, do not ask staff for a transcript from this university if you are in a one-year program because you WILL be screamed at for a small eternity while they tell you that you need to accept that you will not be admitted into a Ph.D. program. If staff find out you are not from the UK, they will treat you like absolute garbage. Also, this university's mental health services are absolutely dreadful, and most professional development opportunities are only offered to Ph.D. students. If you are a master's student, you will be denied any opportunity to make the most of your program. The program itself is hardly worth the effort. It seems like it was deliberately made easy so they could pass as many people as possible. Faculty were rude, condescending and elitist. If you come from a working-class background, be prepared to be reminded multiple times that you are not welcome at the university. Classes are massive, with several hundred students in them. Faculty supervise a ton of students and will likely not remember you even if you consistently show up to office hours. The program brags about its status, but in reality, they have a small handful of academic superstars with whom you will likely never take a class. The university lets way too many people in, and the place is bulging at the seams with people. Be prepared to never find a place in the library to work or a table to eat at. A lot of the time, students just sit on the floor at work. They seem to really a lot on international students to keep the lights on, if the lights are on at all. In terms of looks, I would say about 15% of the university looks like Hogwarts (i.e. the places that they put on their university web pages), while the remaining 85% looks at smells like a public toilet. I would never recommend this program to anyone. International students, beware, they will treat you like cash cows to support their money-making scheme programs, and you will not get anything in return. My advice is to read a book and watch youtube videos on the subject you are interested in. You will likely get more out of it without spending a small fortune to do so.
Suggestions:Do not depend on international students as cash cows for a 1/5 program. Update your assignments and readings. Staff should seriously consider taking anger-management classes.
