Could not recommend the city any more. It is amazing, fun, and has such a caring community. Amazing place. However, I personally could not recommend the university any less. Ended up suspending my studies and staying in Liverpool. Got absolutely no academic, or personal support from the university. Most students I spoke to were highly dissatisfied with their experience here. Looking to transfer unis now, which makes me sad because the city feels like a home.
Pros:Not many. The Middle Eastern lecturer was logical, clear, and held good seminars. A couple of the politics lecturers were enthusiastic, and held enjoyable lectures.
Cons:A lot. No student support. Few personal interactions with lecturers. The website makes absolutely no logical sense, and barely works half the time. Couldn't access my courses online for while because I didn't have a smartphone so could not fulfil the double authentication. I contacted the university, and despite the IT support being very kind, they were rather useless, and I was still unable to login to anything, both on my personal laptop, and the computers in the library. One of my lecturers (online) had a baby on his lap the entire academic year whilst teaching. His wife often walked through the background, so was not impressed that I was paying 9k a year to watch someone babysit. Wasn't sure if this was an attempt to gain a fond liking from his students, but it was a waste of my time and money, and learnt very little in his lectures - none of which I can remember now. A lot of the lecturers looked bored, and as if they wanted to get their lectures over and done with as soon as possible. This is probably in correlation with the fact that they're all striking now, which gives evidence the University is a business, and uncaring to those who are part of it. Very un-scouse of them quite frankly, and I think a lot of teachers and students alike feel lost, alone, and abandoned by the uni. Even before COVID, a lot of my mates who were at the uni before me never went in because the lecturers have been striking since something like 2019. Very dissatisfactory, and I regret ignoring that indicator.
Suggestions:Go to John Moores or something. It is unable to hide under a Russel Group status, so still have to try and have something to prove. Liverpool do not try because they have a little blue tick next to their name that they seem to think gives them a free pass to take students money for very little in return. Moores students are a lot happier, more satisfied, and the courses are a lot more hands-on, so for example law students get actual experience. The campus at Liverpool is beautiful, it's got good library resources, and is a social hub with either the designated student areas, or the proper local pubs nearby. Needs a new person in charge who is not dismissive of students and teachers alike.
