Inconsistent and pretentious - Don't study here if you have mental health issues

Pros:

Some faculty are fantastic and lovely. Numerous members of staff show a clear care for mental health and are considerate of students. The university took students on a couple trips, however, these were to locations which were free of entry, such as the Supreme Court, or the British Museum. Even still, the trips did exist and they forked out money for the coaches, so kudos to them. The course itself has some decent modules. The practical modules are run by a good guy (now fired with minimal explanation given to students). The Legal Advice Centre is a great way to gain legal experience. The Centre is run by fantastic and lovely people and has been the highlight for many student's tenure at the University. The Uni's law society have run some great events and there are some really lovely members.

Cons:

This university is obsessed with looking like it is pristigious. They will actively shaft students to make themselves seem more academic. Due to this, the university is inconsistent with grading, strategies, and just about anything else. The head of law is obsessed with having the university look prestigious and as soon as he took over, the entire university felt it. Numerous members of staff left due to his practices and his lack of genuine care, many others have been fired for reasons unexplained. Due to this, the uni has been left in a shambles. Grading inconsistencies are hilariously drastic. Minimal explanations are often given when low grades are awarded. You could write an essay in one way and achieve a high 70, but then write another in the same way but for a different module and fail that entire module. The lack of consistency is frankly hysterical. The university dropped a module due to it being 'niche.' However, the uni only decided to actually tell us about this fact during our first lecture for that module. The most comedic part of this is that numerous students wanted to study at LJMU because they wanted to study this particular module. Absurd. This was not the only module which was dropped without proper notice. Don't advertise specific modules if you do not plan to offer them. The head of law does not care about mental health and has been overheard jesting that 'we should go back to the way things used to be, we used to just tell idiots with 'social anxiety' to just get over it.' Staff are fired so regularly that it is painful. There is no consistency with faculty staff. When students began to complain that they were not being considered properly, the University resorted to practically bribing them by offering out money as a reward for good grades. Honestly, its not a bad idea on principle. However, students with learning or behavioural difficulties are overlooked and are offered no such rewards. Mental health services exist but you'll be lucky if staff ever mention them. They will also categorically refuse to listen to them if you are hoping to make an extenuating circumstances claim, or request an extension on your deadline. On the topic of extensions or extenuating circumstances requests, good luck getting one without your life literally falling to pieces. While most staff care, few can help, and the heads of faculty show minimal empathy when mental health issues are put to mention. Buildings are dotted around the city in hilariously haphazard fashion. You are often given ten minutes to make a twenty minute journey between lectures. When a group of students noticed this at the beginning of a semester, I noticed laughter from all around. The issue only worsens as the years go by and you notice that you have to traverse practically half the city. Brilliant planning. Honestly, if you're looking to study in Liverpool, I'd recommend any of the other uni's in a heartbeat. You know your uni has a problem when they literally brag about spending money on resources.

Suggestions:

If the University were to fire numerous faculty heads and replace them with competent staff who actually care about students as opposed to the way the university looks, the Uni may be a decent place to study. Restructuring and caring about anything beyond profit would be fantastic and I could definitely recommend it if that happened. If student's study here, the best part of the Uni's experience is not offered by the Uni, but by its neglected body of students. Stick with them, the community is amazing (if it wasn't, people would likely be so depressed that they would all collectively leave in a swarm).
